Every sola flower-topped candle is crafted to outlive the life of your candle.
You know the drill: buy a candle, burn it through, scrape out the wax (messy!), recycle the glass, and head to the store to get another favorite scent.
But with the sola arrangement toppers, you can clean out the glass of your candle and reuse your container for small item, non-food storage. Cotton balls, Qtips, and trinkets are popular choices, but we are also partial to filling ours with craft supplies! A crafter can never have too many small-item storage options!
Here are 3 ways we clean out our burned up candle drippings to extend the life of our containers:
1. Hot water
Careful! This method works the best, but don’t hurt yourself! Â Put the candle on a surface protected with a towel or newspaper and fill the glass, slowly, with very hot water and watch the wax melt off the glass. When the water cools down, you’ll have a puck of old wax floating on top of the water ready to be removed. If there are little bits of wax in the water, be sure to strain them out. You don’t want wax going down your drain! The empty glass can then be cleaned with soap and water.
2. Freezer
Pop your candle in the freezer overnight and through the power of science (the frozen wax will contract and pull away from the sides of the glass) the wax will pop right out! You can also loosen it with a butter knife or break apart the large puck of old wax. Clean the glass with soap and water. This method works great for larger candles with wide mouths!
3. Oven
When you have many containers to clean at once, the oven is a great choice! Scrape out as much wax as you can with a butter knife or spoon. Place your old candles upside down line a rimmed baking pan that is lined with foil or parchment paper and “bake” for about 15 minutes in an oven set to 180 degrees. Watch carefully and remove once the wax is melted. With heat safe towels or gloves, hold the container and wipe the inside with a paper towel. Let the container cool and then clean with soap and water.
